Tinubu’s people don’t trust Wike – says Dele Momodu
Former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu has said that the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, does not have the trust of members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political circle.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, backed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election due to a tussle with the leadership of the PDP over the party’s decision to field Atiku Abubakar – from the northern region – as its flagbearer for the exercise.
He was later appointed FCT Minister but has yet to leave the PDP. The party has not sanctioned him despite calls for such.
But Momodu, a publisher, berated Wike for his stance and accused him of trying to destroy the PDP.
“Wike feels he is fooling Tinubu and his people. But Tinubu’s people know him very well,” he said on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s breakfast show Sunrise Daily.
“There is no Nigerian today who does not know that Wike cannot be trusted in any matter especially if it affects his interest in power. For him, power is everything. Money is everything.”
While there were efforts to reconcile Wike and the PDP, that did not happen. The FCT minister’s fallout with the party led to the PDP losing the presidential election in Rivers State to the APC.
But Momodu believes Wike took the matter too far by working against the PDP.
“What a man should know is that when you cut your nose, thinking you want to spit your face, you would look awkward,” he said.
He, however, noted: “We have left him and we are watching him”.
Momodu insisted he would have sanctioned Wike if he were in a position to do so. He wants the PDP to take action against the minister to put the party in the right stead.
