INEC rejects Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall
April 3, 2025
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally turned down the request to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate.
According to INEC, the petition did not meet the constitutional requirements outlined in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution.
INEC explained this today in a post on its official Facebook handle.
The election umpire had earlier stated that the petition lacks essential contact details and does not meet the necessary requirements for further processing.
This prompted the petitioners to quickly rectify the earlier deficiencies by providing necessary contact details.
This, however, did not stop the petition from failing to meet the constitutional threshold.
Senator Natasha’s recall process has generated controversy with allegations of political motivations and presentation of fraudulent signatures.
The Kogi Central Senator has been in the eye of the storm since she accused the senate president, Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, leading to her being suspended from the Senate for six months.
She has, however, approached the court for redress.
