ASCSN urges Govt to reverse electricity tarrif
Comrade Tommy Okon, the National President of ASCSN, has urged the federal government to reverse the electricity tarrif back to N66 per kWh from N225.
On April 3, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved an increase in electricity tariff for customers under the Band A category to N225 per kwh — from N66.
The commission said customers under the classification are those who receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
ASCSN president, who made this known during the National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) of ASCSN on Monday said the hike is unacceptable by the association considering the present situation of the country, adding, that it did not follow process. He gave the federal government seven days ultimum to reverse even as the labour has done.
According to him, they ought to engage stakeholders before arriving at the price but they did not.
Following the recent queues in fuel stations, Okon, asked the government to unravel those cabals behind the scenes.
He also urged government to live upto it’s expectations in ensuring that all their promises and commitments made to the citizens are fulfilled.
Referring to government’s unfulfilled promises, he said: “We were assured that the Port Harcourt refinery will start working in April but April has come and gone and May would soon go, we have not seen anything yet. They also assured us that when dangote Refinery starts working all the long queues and fuel issues will be in the past, still nothing is being dine. We want NNPC to come out and tell us the truth if they are still paying subsidy rather than speculating.
“The Compressed National Gas (CNG) buses the government promised to provide for workers to ease the transportation system, it’s one year now, we have not seen it. They should live upto it’s expectations,”
He also noted the association’s stand in support with labour union on the new wage of N615,000, adding that the association will not accept any minimum wage that will reduce workers.
Okon, appealed to workers to remain steadfast and be committed to duties.
