Nigerian champions, Rivers United are set to earn $350,000 following their qualification for the last eight of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The Port Harcourt club secured a place in the quarter-finals of the CAF competition despite playing a 2-2 draw in their second to the last group game at home.
Stanley Eguma’s side eventually finished in the second position in Group B following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat by ASEC Mimosa at the Yamoussoukro Municipal Stadium in their last game.
They have been joined in the last eight by seven other clubs.
Rivers United will discover their quarter-final opponent in the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday, April 5.
The last eight draw of Africa’s second tier club competition will take place at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Rivers United are back in the country following their clash against ASEC Mimosa.
The Pride of Rivers landed in Lagos aboard a Cote d’Ivoire Airline at about 11.45pm Nigeria time on Monday night.
Prior to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title-holders’ loss to ASEC Mimosa, the club drew their Group B Match Day 5 fixture against Diables Noirs of Congo Brazzaville at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The result moved them to 10 points and the top of the group on goals difference, ahead of second-placed ASEC Mimosas who had the same number of points. However, following the 1-0 loss on Sunday, the Ivorian team leapfrogged them and topped the group.
